Mayhew Residence, Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana
3,159 square feet
This residence is located on the grounds of Oak Alley Plantation, a National Historic Landmark property along the Mississippi River in Louisiana. The home site is located at the rear of the developed portion of the property, with the sugar cane fields immediately beyond. In order to honor this historic site, the front facade was influenced by photographs and drawings of Bagatelle Plantation, a now gone contemporary of Oak Alley which was sited several miles upriver of Oak Alley. The structure is characteristic of the blended Creole, Greek Revival, and American influences of houses along the lower Mississippi during the last decades before the Civil War.
